"See What the Fire Hath Wrought"
Wood-Fired Ceramics from the Clay Studio
Anagama Kiln

At a mountain-side kiln here in Missoula, for the past four years, a group of artists have been striving for perfection in the science and art of wood-fired ceramics. The kiln, dug into the earth and built according to the structure of ancient Japanese Anagama kilns, takes a community of up to 30 artists to fill and fire. Each firing is a ten-day effort requiring diligence and patience, coordination and cooperation, and unflinching focus. The atmospheric effects coming from the kiln can be described by a host of interacting factors, but the unique appearance of the objects it produces are indescribably magical. The last firing of the kiln took place in November of last year and produced close to 2000 pieces of art. To see a sample of the ceramic art produced, attend the February show at The Missoula Artists Shop.
You are invited to an artists' reception on First Friday, February 3, from 5-8 pm.
The show may be viewed through February (open 10-6 Mon- Sat.)
